Who We Are & What We Do
Our passion and purpose are to "create neighborhoods where people love to live."
We have been involved in creating such neighbourhoods on Bowen Island since 1988, when Wolfgang Duntz, together with a friend and local partner, bought 260 acres above Snug Cove which have since become known as the Cates Hill development. Before Wolfgang immigrated to Canada from Germany, he became quite successful as a developer and realtor in Hanover, Germany. After he and his family settled in B.C., he undertook land development projects in Langley, B.C., and in Washington state.
Cates Hill has become a unique hillside/seaside village with a) mixed housing forms ranging from family homes to single household rental suites; b) five commercial buildings; c) community buildings such as a Municipal hall, church, private secondary school, preschool and daycare, teen centre, retreat centre, children's theatre school; d) park areas and greenbelts; and e) extensive trail network. Market enthusiasm for Cates Hill has been strong since its beginning, and Phase 3 of Cates Hill Village still provides a few outstanding view home sites.
In 1999 Wolfgang and several friends/partners bought 500 acres at Cowan Point, and started the development that is described on this website.
Both projects have enabled us to assemble a highly qualified and motivated team capable of handling a wide variety of construction work in an efficient and timely manner, whether that work includes a major concrete dam, water and sewage treatment plants, many kilometers of the best roads and roadside trails and utility infrastructure on the island, or new homes, or new commercial/community buildings.
We have applied for the rezoning of the Parkview Slopes area of Cates Hill, and propose that the market housing density be transferred from Parkview Slopes to Cowan Point. This will allow the creation of affordable alternative housing forms (e.g., family-oriented rental homes, live-work studio/workshop buildings, and 650- to 1,000-square-foot-cottage homes on long-term community lease parcels) on Parkview Slopes. We also plan to propose the rezoning of some of the Cowan Point lands to allow for a variety of other alternative housing forms (e.g., homes for young families/starter homes, single and two-person households, adult-oriented "age-in-place" homes, and other sustainable community housing forms currently not available on Bowen Island). Here you can find out more about our rezoning application.
