View Cowan Point through the eyes of its visionary, Wolfgang Duntz
"The vision of creating a community that flourishes on a strong foundation of artistic and cultural enterprises, supported by a varied and sophisticated range of hospitality, education / life-long learning, and maintenance of health, is beginning to take shape."
- Wolfgang Duntz
When Wolfgang Duntz first set foot on Bowen Island in 1976, he wrote back to his wife in Germany that he'd found the place where they could spend the rest of their lives. And that is just what has happened. The Duntz family settled in Canada in 1978 and in the decades since they have become mainstays of the Bowen Island community and passionate advocates for its future.
"At the time," says Duntz, "my professional colleagues in West Vancouver were shocked that I would choose to live on Bowen Island. It was considered beyond the pale. But I had been raised in Europe and had travelled a lot. Everywhere I'd gone I'd seen that islands close to great metropolitan areas were the most cherished, the most valuable and the most desirable places to live.
"As Vancouver has grown up and become more vibrant and cosmopolitan, people have come to appreciate Bowen Island for the jewel that it really is. It was a diamond in the rough when we first settled here, but now it's starting to shine."
Wolfgang and his family have played an active part in the development of Bowen and are passionate protectors of the unique qualities of this community.
"My vision for Seymour Landing at Cowan Point is the same as my vision for Bowen Island as a whole," says Duntz. "A safe, open, accessible and diverse community of families living in nature, caring for one another, somewhat free from the restrictions and pressures of conventional life but connected culturally, artistically, intellectually and spiritually.
"From many homes at Seymour Landing there will be views of ocean and nature and also of the bridges and towers and lights of the city. You'll be able to step right off a boat into the heart of it, and whenever you like you'll be able to leave it all behind. It is nature and human nature in balance.
"In creating the masterplan for Cowan Point, and Seymour Landing in particular, we have worked hard to create a place that engages the full spectrum of life. We are creating a place that provides the beauty and security of home as well as the warmth and engagement of community. That's why we have a range of homes, townhomes, cottages and cluster housing to invite families from all phases of life and income levels."
